In your new song 'Happy Days', self-composed by Jinyoung, the lyrics go "If you're here, I'm happy everyday". Can you talk about how you came about to choosing such a happy theme?

Jinyoung: I have a very positive personality, to the point that I feel happy from even the smallest things. I wrote this song hoping that those listening to it would feel the same way I do.

Baro: When I first heard the song, my mood was unknowingly lifted. It's an interesting song to sing to, and a song from which you can feel B1A4's unique brightness and energy.

There's a line in the lyrics that goes "If you're here I smile warmly". Amongst the members, who makes you smile?

Baro: (immediately) Me! Me!

Sandeul: Ah, self-recommendation? (laughs)

CNU: No, it's everyone. All of us have our own powerful charms.

CNU: Well it's something like that. This is how we get strength from the members (laughs).

What a great team you guys make! The music video was really cute and colorful, and came out really interestingly. Were there any stories from during the filming?

CNU: A lady comes out in the music video enlarged, but we did not actually see her during the filming as she was added in in post production. It was fun to have to imagine her there to act and react to!

Baro: This MV is produced by a Japanese director. Be it the scene with the lady, or the scene that we were running... The parts where we used CG were really fun. We did not know how it would look like until the finished product came out so it was really exciting.

Look back at 2015 and tell us about something that made you smile, or feel happy.

CNU: For me, it was our Korean comeback in August. After a break of 1 year, we released our mini album 'Sweet Girl'. Knowing that our fans waited for us, it made me really happy beyond anything else.

Sandeul: For me, it was taking part in my third musical 'Cinderella' this autumn. I was happy to be able to stand on stage, but even happier that the members came to watch.

Baro: Ehhhh, seriously?

How was Sandeul as a prince?

CNU: He was really handsome, showing off a very strong performance. (Next to him, Sandeul starts fiddling with his nails) Ah look at him being all shy (laughs).

Gongchan: For me, it's the world tour and being able to meet our overseas fans. From November onwards, we will be on our second world tour 'B1A4 ADVENTURE 2015'. Just like our first world tour, every country's fans are always passionate, and makes me anticipate how could the next country we are heading for be like.

Baro: For me, it's the outdoor concert that we held in Seoul in September. It was our first ever solo outdoor concert, and I think it was the one amongst all the concerts that we've held to have the best atmosphere. It did rain a little but that fit the ballads we sung well.

Jinyoung: Ah, it's the outdoor concert for me too! We did a little cosplay during the song 'With You', and it was really fun.

'Happy Days' was released on Jinyoung's birthday on 18 November. How did you spend your birthday?

Jinyoung: We were in Korea then, and the members planned a surprise celebration.

Baro: We prepared a cake according to Gongchan's plan, and invaded the producing room where Jinyoung hyung was working in.

Jinyoung: At first I thought, which of them had what business to come looking for me, but suddenly all of them came in and shouted "surprise!!!". Only then did I realize what was going on (laughs). I was touched. Thank you.

Gongchan: After the surprise ended, we all sat down and ate the cake together while congratulating him.

There will be 'B1A4 X'mas LIVE 2015' in both Tokyo and Osaka. What can we expect?

CNU: It is important to spend Christmas with the ones you love. This performance will be one that is made up of the people I love - the members and our fans. Please come and feel the warmth of the live show.

Sandeul: Yes! It is a song that talks about how the world is more colorful on Christmas with everyone's smiling faces. It's a happy song, and will probably be the key point of our Christmas live concert.

This year you are having a live concert on Christmas, but are there any memories of your past Christmases with the members?

Baro: It was the Christmas of 2012. There were lots of CDs to be signed, and I remember the members all sitting in the office and signing them quietly while eating takeout jjajangmyeon... It was snowing outside, so it felt like an even lonelier Christmas... Memories of an enjoyable Christmas... There doesn't seem to be any! But that also means that I look forward to having even better memories in the future. Come to think of it, I have always spent Christmas with the members.

In January next year, you will be starting 'The Great World of B1A4~ B1A4 JAPAN TOUR 2016'. How do you feel about touring in such a long time?

Baro: There are venues that we will be going for the first time, and fans that we will be meeting for the first time ever. I'm looking forward to it! I hope to show various sides to us through this tour.

Have you prepared a show that will make your fans go 'kyaaaa'?

Baro: I can't tell you now.

Birthday

The release of our single 'Happy Days' was on my birthday. That day we were in Korea, and the members came into my producing room with a surprise so I spent the day enjoyably. We had a release event (for 'Happy Days') in Japan after that and I received lots of congratulatory messages from the Japanese fans. The best present was to hear fans tell me that they were really happy to be able to listen to our new song on my birthday. Present from the members? There was none (laugh). But I do not find material presents to be important so I didn't need a present. 

Overseas trips

We had our first ever world tour last year, and we are also in the midst of our second world tour at the moment. The fans in Mexico were really passionate! I'd love to have a live performance or recording in London, a country that we've never been to before. It has the image of being a country closely linked with music, no? Personally I'd like to go to Chicago in USA. The street atmosphere of when we went there for our world tour was so cool. Even though it was also quite chilly, it felt quite lonely. I definitely want to go there again. 

Movies

Not long ago I went to watch '007 Spectre'. It was quite thrilling so it was interesting. I really love watching movies but due to our busy schedule recently I haven't had much time to go to the theatres so it's quite a pity. It's the best to watch movies on the big screen, but I do also watch movies on the plane or through DVDs with the members in the dormitory. The only person amongst the members I would consider a movie connoisseur is Sandeul. There are times I even refer to his opinion. And if you have time, please watch the movie that I appeared in, 'Miss Granny'.

Love at first sight in Nagoya! The BEST 3 food that Sandeul fell in love with after trying them in Japan

Tebasaki (Fried Chicken Wings)

My first meeting with tebasaki was in Nagoya. Crunchy, and the perfect balance of saltiness. I fell in love at first sight with it, so much that I can eat it without stopping. There are times I crave for it when I'm in Korea, and times that the taste comes to my mouth despite me not eating it at all. It made that big of an impact on me! If we get to go to Nagoya for our Japan tour, I will definitely eat it!

Uni (Sea Urchin)

I had it for the first time at a sushi restaurant in Tokyo. The gentleness of the sea spreads within your mouth and my mood instantly improved. Even though I grew up in a seaside city, I didn't like how grotesque it looked and how slippery it felt so I couldn't eat it well. But since everyone offered me, I took a challenge and it was delicious! There's also this dish called angler fish stew in Korea which I couldn't eat when I was young. Well they say that both sea urchin and angler fish stew are food for the adults. And since I like both these dishes so much now, I think my appetite has changed to that of an adult's!

Natto (Fermented Soybeans)

I like this because there's the feeling of getting healthier as you eat this. I had this for the first time not in Japan, but in Korea. I was curious how would it taste after seeing it in a Japanese manga. In Korea we have this rich bean paste stew made from fast-fermenting soybean too, so I asked what was it that looked similar to the stew but had threads coming out of it. And they told me it was natto. I tried it, and it was delicious! I fell in love with it and since then I've been offering it to the members, and everyone loves it now. It's healthy too, so it's really the best food.

Recommended for couples! The BEST 3 places in Korea that B1A4 Baro wants to go this winter

Muju Ski Resort

If we're talking about places to go in winter, then definitely a ski resort! This is the most famous place in Korea where you can enjoy winter to your heart's delight. It's a must-go for both families or as a couple, but take note that it will be crowded (laughs). Even though I prefer snowboarding over skiing, I haven't been able to snowboard that often either. I learnt how to snowboard for the first time at the Tomamu Ski Resort in Hokkaido where we filmed our 'White Miracle' music video. Yes, actually, I'm a beginner (laughs). Sandeul snowboards really well so I've gone with him before too. It would be nice to go this season too.

Itaewon

This is a place that is the most highly populated by foreigners in Seoul, and is a place where you will be able to experience winter with people from all over the world. Despite being in Seoul, it feels like you're taking a short trip overseas whenever you go there so I highly recommend it. Maybe because there are people from all over the world there, there are many restaurants offering foods from all over the world, from Indian to Brazil cuisines. It's a great place to go on a food tour. It's an interesting place I hope everyone goes there at least one.

Haeundae

This is a really famous beach in Korea. The beach in winter is differently refreshing from the beach in summer. Be it with close friends, or family, it is a cool place to be, and even romantic when going as a couple. It's nice in the summer too, but because I'm not fond of crowded places, I recommend going there in the winter. Since it's by the sea, there are also plenty of street foodstalls selling seafood dishes, as well as restaurants specializing in sashimi - lots of places that will definitely cater to the tastebuds of Japanese travellers! Even though we go to Busan quite often for work schedules, honestly I've never been there for a personal reason (laughs).

Rich Man, Poor Woman (FujiTV)

Oguri Shun and Ishihara Satomi are my favourite actor and actress, and this is a drama I watched several times. In the special 'Rich Man, Poor Woman in New York' episode, there is a scene where both actors talk over Skype. It was a cute scene so I like it very much. To be honest, it's hard for the boss of a company to have a relationship with a company intern, so it was interesting to see how they worked their differences out. I'm checking out several other Japanese dramas recently too.

Long Vacation (FujiTV)

I like Kimura Takuya very much so I have watched several of his productions. I started watching this drama under the recommendation of the staffs we work with. It is a drama that aired about the time I was born. The chemistry between Kimura Takuya and Yamaguchi Tomoko was great, and I watched with a fluttering heart at how they got closer by fighting and getting to know each other when living together. I want to be able to do handsome roles like Kimura Takuya's someday too.

Suteki na Sen Taxi (FujiTV) 

Even though it's impossible to bring a person back to the turning point of their lives where they are able to choose a different choice, it's an interesting AU to watch. There is also the thrill of watching how that person's life changes with the choice they made! If the taxi appears in front of me, I might choose to take it, and go back to elementary school where I would choose to take up a second language. But from there on, the choice of whether to study English or Japanese would also cause me to live my life very differently too I guess (laughs).

Q. What kind of song is Sweet Girl? Please tell us what point should we listen to so that the song sounds even better!

Jinyoung: The title song of our sixth mini album Sweet Girl is about a guy falling in love with the opposite party at fight sight, and chasing after that person like in a dream while confessing his love. Even though the lyrics are about the emotions and views of a guy who fell in love at first time, we wanted to express the fluttering emotions of love between both parties. The title Sweet Girl also refers to how the girl looks at the guy, and the song expresses not just the emotions of the person singing it but also the overall situation. Hence we hope the guys who listen to this song become guys who have the courage to confess, and girls to feel like they are the main character of this song.

Sandeul: That's right. This song is a serenade to the person you love. That's why for me, I thought about how I would express this song to the girl of my destiny. In the end I put in more emotions so that it feels more manly(?). Please listen closely to the vocals of the members.

Q. Please introduce the songs in your mini-album.

Baro: You Are A Girl, I Am A Boy is a charming song with vintage guitar sounds. It talks about how one finds out that men and women cannot be friends, as they gain feelings of the opposite sex after being friends for a long time. It will be easy to relate to the lyrics, and you will be able to feel the refreshing vocals of the members while listening to it. It's a catchy song perfect for the hot summer.

Jinyoung: The third song After 10 Years... This is our comeback in a year and a month after Solo Day. Even though the members had individual activities, it was considered a break for us since we did not have album promotions. We spent time amongst ourselves thinking and talking to each other, and all of a sudden we started thinking about how we would be like in 10 years' time. Thinking about we would become lazy in 10 years' time made us reflect on ourselves and that we would live life to the fullest. That's how this song came about.

CNU: That's right. Should I say that this song is like a whip to us? That's a line in the lyrics that go “How is it now?”. This is a song that makes us think about how we are right now. Please listen to it while thinking about the rich sounds and lyrics.

Gongchan: I'll introduce Wait. The most important point of this song is!! That you can enjoy Baror hyung's voice. It starts with only piano sounds and his voice, and that provides a platform for the member's emotional voices to shine. I want to recommend everyone to listen to this song if you are curious about Baro hyung's vocals!

Sandeul: The last song is Love is Magic, a self-composed and self-written song by our soulfull CNU hyung. I did the guide for this song when he first made it. It made me think “Ah, this is exactly a song that CNU hyung would write.” It is also a song that I personally like. And this is a secret... But the last song is not the last song... If you listen to it for 10 more seconds~!!! I'll introduce the album up until here.

Q. If you were to express 'B1A4' in one word?

Jinyoung: Family. I think right now, I can only say they are family.

CNU: B1A4 only exists because BANAs exist. B1A4 and BANA are always together!

Q. An memorable episode during the preparation of this album?

Sandeul: Personally, it would be me working hard on my diet. Even though I am still on my diet now, but I think it is really memorable. I ate only chicken breast for almost two months to lose all the cheek fats I gained during our break. I did boxing, walked to our dorm everyday and used the running machine too. I'm really proud and happy that the fans like my changed look, and that they are cheering me on.

Gongchan: Rather than an episode, there was something I was sad and upset over. I got an allergy the day before our music video shoot. My entire body and face was all red and my eyes swollen. I remember being really worried because it was the day before the shoot. But thankfully I got better after a trip to the emergency room. When I think about that day it still feels giddy.

CNU: I tend to compose in the wee hours of the night, and Sandeul usually records the guide track for me. It is quite often that Sandeul's individual schedule ends quite late into the night, but never once has he rejected my request for him to help. I want to make use of this interview and thank Sandeul!

Q. A comeback after 1 year! Anything you felt while doing your individual activities or while preparing for the album?

Jinyoung: It feels like just yesterday that we debuted, and I feel time really flies. We always felt like the youngest but from some time onwards we gained many juniors. Even the youngest in our company junior group Oh My Girl is 17 years old. That also means we have gained many responsibilities. Nowadays I do feel like I need to work even harder.

Baro: This is a worry we have whether we release a new album – through what kind of music should we show off B1A4's color. I think this will be a problem that can never be solved.

CNU: It was also a time for us to feel the preciousness of our fans. I'm very thankful to the fans who have been cheering us on in the past year, and I'm still thinking about how I should express this thanks to them.

Sandeul: That's right! Our fans are our source of energy. There was a chance for us to perform and meet our fans not too long before our comeback, and so many fans turned up with our lightstick and sang along to our songs. It was a performance we had after a long time so it was even more precious and the strength gained was twice as much.

Gongchan: There's something I've been feeling very strongly recently. Not just me but also the hyungs. We feel that B1A4 is most comfortable and enjoyable when we are five. CNU hyung's musical recently ended in July. He practices so much usually that we can practically memorize all the musical numbers. Recently during a meeting, at the same time, we all started copying CNU hyung's gestures and sang the high voices of the highlight of the musical numbers. After singing, the members were all rolling around, clapping and laughing loudly. To be honest it wasn't even a funny scene, but it was just funny that five of us are finally together and coming up with such a situation. That's how I came to think that B1A4 needs to have all five of us to be together.

Q. Lastly, what are your goals for this promotion? And a word to your fans.

Jinyoung: B1A4 is finally back and meeting everyone with a new album in almost a year. We have come in front of everyone with the five of us becoming one. Our break was a time for us to realize how precious everyone – who sent us your love without change over the long break – is to us. Now we will be able to meet often so please cheer us on and give lots of love to our album.

B1A4's CNU and Jinyoung revealed to Newsway how they spent their 1 year and 1 month long break, on 7 August in the waiting room of a music broadcast show.

B1A4 focused on their individual activities during the break the past 1 year and 1 month. Leader Jinyoung participated consecutively in tvN music drama 'Perseverance Gu Haera' and MBC 'Warm and Cozy', while Baro showed himself via various channels including MBC 'Angry Mom' and varieties tvN 'Youth over Flowers' and 'House Cook Master Baek' and MBC 'Real Men'.

Sandeul transformed into a musical actor for 'All Shook Up', and is currently participating in MBC 'Masked Singer' as part of the celebrity panel. CNU has received good reviews for his first challenge in musicals in 'Chess', while maknae Gongchan has recently became an MC for KBS2 'A Song For You'.

Regarding his first challenge at a musical, CNU revealed that "I've always wanted to try the musical genre, but it was difficult so I hestitated. Until now I am not confident. I thought I needed to improve and polish myself more, but I felt and realized many things while doing the musical."

He added on, "Sandeul really helped me out. He acted alongside me and gave me lots of advice. They were really big and important advice to me. Thanks to his advice, I was able to be more prepared before going for musical practice. I think that was how I managed to prepare well without causing any inconveniences to the seniors. It was fun to work on the album consistently while standing on the musical stage.”

Due to the filming of MBC 'Warm and Cozy', leader Jinyoung stayed on Jeju Island for almost 2 months. He laughed, saying “there were times I missed Seoul. But then I spent time looking for delicious food on Jeju Island.” CNU then revealed that “when Jinyoung was in Jeju Island, he sent a ton of food photos to our KakaoTalk group chat.”

Jinyoung explained(?) that “I really wanted to go with the members so I took photos of delicious photos”. Jinyoung especially enjoys eating. He said that for him, “food is like a compensation. After working hard, I need to eat. I ate a lot of meat while in Jeju Island.” He also revealed, “I need to gain weight but I can't, no matter how much I eat. For people who don't gain weight, that's a form of pain. It'll be nice to just even gain a little.”

B1A4 reveals their secret behind how they have been promoting without any scandals for the past 5 years since their debut. 

Leader Jinyoung met with Newsen at the waiting room of a music program on the 7th. "Through this round of promotions, we want to appeal to everyone with the fact that we produced our songs this time alongside a real band. We've always done it with a real band, but honestly most of the time the recording is done without a drum and bass. This time we wanted more vivid sounds so we recorded with a real band and orchestra. There were many things to take care of, but we worked hard for them to blend together well," he revealed.

Since their fifth mini album Solo Day last July, B1A4 is back to the domestic fans after 1 year and 1 month. It's hard to say that it was a long time coming, but with promotional cycles being shorter for idols, it's not a short time either. B1A4 revealed that due to their relatively long break, they felt scared that their position as singers would become smaller, and that fans would have forgotten them. The song 'After 10 Years' in their new album expresses those feelings.

Jinyoung said, "We too, wanted to make a comeback when we were almost done preparing. But due to the busy individual schedules of the members, our comeback was slightly delayed." He also revealed that "it would have been a lie to say that we did not feel insecure during our break. As much as we felt so, we knew we needed to quietly comeback for our comeback. Rather than feeling nervous at the thought of trusting our fans and having to show our fans a good side to us, we decided to channel that into preparing for something else. We missed our fans."

He added, "We're all humans, so after taking a long break we also become lazy and everything is just tiring. At those moments, a lot of thoughts come to mind - and 'After 10 Years' is the song that contains all of those thoughts. We often receive questions like 'How would B1A4 have changed 10 years down the road?' during interviews. Whenever we receive those questions, a lot of things come to mind. I feel like by then, we might become lazy too. The lyrics talk about us going outside after 10 years, but there's no one around and nothing waiting for us. It's like a self-diss but makes us look back at ourselves. When I read the lyrics, I feel scared but then I look back at myself and tell myself that I settle myself down. When I look back at the last 5 years, I feel that I've worked quite hard."

Talking about their changes in that period, CNU said, "We're in our fifth year of debut, and in that time our breaks have helped us in developing ourself. Rather than deciding we need to show everyone a change, it is more like showing everyone how we have changed naturally as we grow older. Our image now is our own natural self. We decided we shouldn't try to make something up."

Unlike most idols, B1A4 has never had malicious gossip or scandals directed at them. When asked about the secret behind them promoting without any of that, CNU revealed that "we agreed that we should not cause harm to each other. If we had turned a blind eye towards each other, they (scandals) may have already exploded." He added on, "I think our secret is mutual trust and consideration. My bad behaviour would not only cause harm to me but also the members. I try to be careful, and be considerate of each other."

Jinyoung showed his affection for the members, revealing that "We are a lucky team. Because we met people who are like ourselves, we share the same sentiments even without speaking. The words of our seniors Shinhwa made a very deep impression on me. The secret behind them being able to remain a group for so long was to be like each other's fans. That really made a deep impression. Just like fans, we take interest in what each other are doing, and point out each other's mistakes. By doing so, we have been able to gain each other's trust and create synergy. When I did a musical, Sandeul who has experience in musicals came to watch and gave me advice. Their comeback guerilla concert helped them ruminate on how precious fans were. With their handmade flyers and banners, B1A4 promoted their guerilla concert at M-Stage in Gangnam, Seoul, and received a turnout of almost 2000 fans.

Jinyoung revealed, "We held a guerilla concert but it was really scary. It was a performance that had to have 2000 people turn up, but I thought that it would be fortunate if it even just got barely filled out. We were surprised that the crowd exceeded the fence and crowded all the way till Yeoksam station. 'Guerilla Concert' was a program I used to enjoy watching, so I really wanted to hold one. As expected, it was fun and made my heart flutter. When I watched the show last time and saw senior singers cry upon removing their eye patches, I thought it was just acting, but it was not. Out of thankfulness and happiness, tears just come out," expressing his thanks for fans.

What is the goal they aim to achieve with this round of promotions? Jinyoung said, "We want to show the different images that B1A4 has shown as time passed. We have promoted in the past with songs not written by others but by ourselves, and this time it is likewise. With the passing of time, the style of our songs have changed and so have our thoughts. We want our self-composed songs to receive love from the public. I hope people can feel that B1A4 has become more mature. Despite promoting with seniors like Super Junior, Big Bang and Wonder Girls, we have no thoughts of rivalry. We are going to put meaning into letting people listen to music that we've released in a long time, and meeting our fans. There are situations where singers are not even able to release an album, so I am happy that I am able to let everyone listen to music that we've made."

Q. Please talk about SOLO DAY.
Jinyoung: If our previous album titled WHO AM I was an album that allowed us to look back on the direction of our music and position since debut, we worked on this album with the mindset of fulfilling another of our dreams. The title song SOLO DAY is a pop song with a country feel, and has a overall refreshing sound from the use of guitar. I think it's the perfect song to listen to in summertime.
CNU: When I first saw the title, I immediately thought that it was a song for all the single people with no other half. But it doesn't exactly mean that. I think it's a song for the lonely people in the world - those who have broken up with their other half, or for some reason are feeling lonely. I hope you listen to it with a broader mindset.
Sandeul: That's right. I hope SOLO DAY becomes a new date to celebrate. It's a song that is filled with B1A4's positivity. It will make you hum along to it, so I hope everyone who listens to this song will only be met with happy things.
Baro: And in this album we included a variety of song genres that we had not tried before. There are songs that are refreshing and suitable for summer time, so please listen to all the songs without missing any one of them.
Gongchan: If you listen to the album from beginning to end, you will probably think that it is music that is good to listen to in summer time. I hope you will spend this humid summer with B1A4's music no matter where you go.


Q. I heard that the B1A4 members personally worked on this album. Which songs did you participate in?
CNU: We worked on all the songs in this album. I am really happy to be able to continue to show everyone our (musical) style. Following up from SEOUL and DRUNK ON MUSIC in our 2nd full length album, I participated in the song DRIVE from this album.
Baro: All the songs in this album were composed, penned and produced by us. Jinyoung and CNU hyung composed and wrote lyrics, while I helped in writing lyrics. We tried to show everyone B1A4's variety so I hope you listen to all the songs.
Jinyoung: Not just composition and lyric writing, the members were all involved in this starting from recording till the end. When recording, we direct each other and talk about the song. The production process is very enjoyable. There is no song that hasn't been touched by the members, so please give them a lot of love.


Q. An interesting episode that happened while working on this album?
Jinyoung: It's not an interesting episode, but at the last filming of our music video, a camera fell into the pool. I recall we were all worried and nervous about all the content we had filmed would all disappear. The camera was also expensive so the mood at the filming location was very tense. But thankfully the camera was alright and I think the music video came out nicely.
CNU: There is a rap that Baro wrote for DRIVE, but there was something lacking about it so I recall we used a different rap when recording. In the end we fixed it with the original rap, but because of it Baro had to go through some difficulties. But thanks to it, I think a better end product was achieved and everyone was satisfied.
Sandeul: There is a scene which we filmed with a puppy. Jinyoung hyung had a scene with the puppy. As if they agreed upon it, both of them turned their heads in the same direction when a pretty lady walked past. I think that was the most interesting and amazing episode.
Baro: It was a first for us to film our music video in USA. We loved the sunlight in the desert and the bench, so we would soak up in the sun whenever we could and ended up getting so tanned. I think this summer will be a summer where I will have a healthy bronze tan.
Gongchan: I had a carefree vagabond concept, so I filmed with a hairpiece in vintage clothes. During a break of our filming, I was leaning against a streetlight. 2 foreigners walked past me and gave me $2.


Q. You seem to be very busy recently, Baro. Did you encounter any difficults while working on the album?
Sandeul: He's the kind who would stay up overnight to do what he needs to do. So I think he worked on the album without much difficulties.
Gongchan: I thought 'as expected of Baro hyung', whenever I saw him work on the album whenever he had time.
CNU: He's always lifting the mood wherever he is, so he is B1A4's energizer. Should I say that he's very praiseworthy?
Baro: The members always make up for the things I'm lacking of in twice the amount, so I always feel very assured. I just wanted to tell them that I am very proud and thankful for them always doing their best in their individual environments.

Q. What does B1A4 want to show everyone through this album?
Jinyoung: I want to show everyone us maturing a little bit more with every album, and the wide variety of music B1A4 seeks to make. So I hope many people will become happier listening to our music.
CNU: I want to be a group that people will look forward to seeing the future. I want to meet the anticipation that people who listen to our music have that we will improve bit by bit, and make music that will make people anticipate our next album.
Sandeul: I want to show everyone the positive energy of B1A4, and a musical style that belongs solely to us through participation of composing and writing in all of our songs.
Baro: I want to show off a different charm to us each time, while giving off a friendly feeling through a variety of songs.
Gongchan: I want the people who listen to our music think that we are idols with different sides to us, and become a group that leaves a lasting memory.

Q. What music does B1A4 enjoy listening to usually?
Jinyoung: Michael Jackson's Love Never Felt So Good. I really like the lyrics. When I listen to it, it feels like I'm right about to fall in love.
CNU: Not long ago Robin Thicke released a new album, and I enjoy listening to it. I also search for latest news about Mariah Carey.
Sandeul: It's different for me time to time, but recently I am enjoying a song by the name of Somo-Ride.
Baro: I want to recommend David Guetta's Shot Me Down!

Q. What do you think you will be doing on your birthday?

A: It's so obvious (what I will do) so I'm not too sure what to say. But if there are no schedules, I will probably spend it with the members in the practice room. In our first year of debut, I celebrated my first birthday with the fans as part of an event. I want to do that again. It was the first birthday party that I had with so many people, and I guess it left a lasting memory. I want to have an event like that again. If I can't do it this year, I'll definitely do it next year.

A: What should I do... Our Japanese management company has already congratulated me on my birthday. Overseas they don't calculate birthdays by the year, so they wished me a happy 23^rd birthday. It felt a little different so I thought, maybe I'm old now. It's a chance for me to think about my age.

Q. What do you think about growing up?

A: It's a little unusual and a little special, but to the majority of people out there, being my age is young. But as an entertainer, to singers, my age is when we are the busiest. I have to be more mature and think deeper than my peers, and I have to act older than my age. My fellow peers who are also 24 years old are generously and bravely challenging different things – not that I am not challenging things, but I feel that I have to take them on with more hesitation and after more thinking.

Q. What age are you looking forward to be? Why?

A: 30 years old. There's a song 'As I'm Nearing Thirty' [T/N: By Kim Kwangseok]. When I was in a band when I was younger, the hyungs who did music around me for a longer time told me that if I wanted to do serious music, I would have to be 30 years old. Only after then would I be able to do serious music, so I'm looking forward to being 30 years old. That's why I think turning 30 holds special meaning to me.

Q. What do you dislike hearing on your birthday, and what do you want to hear most on your birthday?

A: I don't like hearing that I have to work on my birthday. Honestly anyone would dislike hearing that. And I want to hear the words 'I love you'. Honestly to say or hear 'I love you' makes me a little abashed, but because my birthday is a special day I want to hear it and I want to express it.

Q. What was your birth dream?

A: I asked my mother what she dreamt of because I didn't know, but she wasn't too sure either. 'A really huge and thick snake appeared. And I think it came into the house?' was what she said. She couldn't remember exactly.

Q. Your most memorable birthday?

A: The first birthday I celebrated after we debuted. I felt it in my bones that I was receiving so much love as I spent my birthday with so many people. The members also secretly prepared a dance for me, so it was really memorable as I felt the love of so many people.

Q. What is the most special birthday present you've received?

A: When I was young, we didn't really celebrate with parties at home. I spent my birthdays simply with my family at home. When I was in my second or third year of elementary school, I had a birthday party for the first time ever with my friends. Of course it is nice to spend my birthday celebrating with my family, but the party that my mother specially prepared for me in itself was a huge present to me.

Q. What present would you like to receive?

A: I want myself to go on a break. I want to gift myself with freedom.

Q. If you were given a break for your birthday, what is one thing you definitely want to do?

A: I've always said that I want to go on a drive. I'm not one to enjoy a holiday, but I like the car ride that will bring me to the vacation spot. Even when we have schedules, I love going to the cities further down in the countryside. I think travelling by car is really nice. It's also nice to stop by the rest stop and buy food. Where would I go on a drive? If I have time, I usually use my elder sister's car to drive around and go to places I went to when I was in school.

Q. What was a wish you made when you were young? Has it come true?

A: It has come true, because I wished that I would become a singer. My dreams have never changed, I've always asked to be a singer. During my birthday I wished that I could become a singer, make my name known and succeed, and I wished it during ancestral rites to my ancestors too. Whenever I had a chance to make a wish, I made that wish. Haha.

Q. Imagine your birthday in 10 years' time.

A: I guess I would be married. When I was young, I hoped that I would get married at 20 years old. I wanted to get married at 20 years old and have grandchildren to look after at 40 years old. Since that is no longer possible, I want to spend my birthday in 10 years' time as one woman's husband, as my children's father.

Q. Is there a star you want to get congratulated on your birthday by?

A: I really like Michael Jackson. Even though it's a wish that will never come true now, I did ever feel that it would be really meaningful even if he wished me in my dreams. Not long ago, Michael Jackson's album was released and I really welcomed it. I think it feels even more so because I no longer see him.

Q. Someone you wish to thank on your birthday?

A: Of course it's my parents. Even though I received a lot of love growing up, I also rebelled against my parents during my stormy period of adolescence. But of course I didn't cause any major accidents. I didn't realize then, but after living apart from them I really felt how precious my parents are. I want to thank them for giving birth to me.

Q. Please say something to yourself.

A: Dongwoo-ya. You're turning 24 years old. Even though you're not very old, and in other ways you're very young, but I hope you become a person who does not disappoint the many people looking at you and your family who loves you. #Sandeul's life graph: Immortal Sandeul

As you can feel from how Sandeul wrote 'We got first place♥' filled with so much aegyo, his life graph is of a steep slope, showing how B1A4 is on a roll.  In particular, his personal career is also included on his life graph so you will be able to see his life in an eye.

Sandeul has extraordinary skills that allows him to be first in whatever he does. He had a weak constitution when he was young so he always got teased by his friends, but he overcame it through swimming and taekwondo. He showed talent for inline skating by winning first place in a competition. After he learnt how to sing when he was 17 years old, he went on to win numerous awards in music festivals and got the grand prize in the 2010 Korea Youth Musical Festival. The one thing that continually came up on Sandeul's life graph was Immortal Song. He chose the most memorable stages to be 'To Live Like A Man' he did with Baro, his stage as a solo 'Forgotten Season' and the duet he did with actor Choi Minsoo 'Lady in the Rain'. Baro's life graph is memorable because it reflects his real life personality. Even though he is playful and humourous, when it comes to work he shows a professional side to him with a serious face. Even though he spent a hard time coming up from Gwangju to Seoul to become a trainee, it was a time for him where he confirmed his dream of being a singer. Baro expressed, "Honestly I did not have the conviction that I wanted to live and feed on music. I liked hiphop, but there wasn't really an academy where you could learn that. It was just a hobby I liked alone." However he got his confirmation when he was accepted through an audition, and has arrived at where he is now by not letting go on an opportunity. Group B1A4 has met with a happy occasion. After making a fancy comeback with new song ‘Tried to Walk’, today is also leader Jinyoung’s 22nd birthday. Born 18 November 1991.

Despite not being able to have a comfortable birthday party due to the overlap with their comeback week, Jinyoung gave his distinctive smile and commented that “I’m happy to be able to spend it with fans”.

Q. It’s your birthday today. How do you feel?

A: Firstly, I feel that time passes quickly. As I celebrate every birthday each year, I feel that I learn many things. My thoughts have deepened, and I think of the many precious people around me, and B1A4′s dreams.

Q. How do you feel about getting older?

A: I do think that it is sad, but getting older is definitely something positive. I think that I am becoming more mature, and I have become more responsible in leading B1A4. I think those are thoughts that come as we grow older. I’ve become more careful with my actions, and I think a little deeper about things. It’s nice to have deeper thoughts.

Q. What age do you look forward to the most?

A: 23 years old. It’ll be next year, and I feel like we would have accomplished something. That’s why I’m looking forward to it. It is the end of the year, where I move from being 22 years old to 23 years old. Starting from now, I feel like that B1A4 will achieve something good.

Q. Something you hate to hear on your birthday, and something you like to hear?

A: Something I hate to hear would be “Oh, you’re already so old”. When I was in my 10s, I never thought that the 20s would come. But I’m already 23 years old. This feeling is really unique. I would probably feel even more so when I’m in my 30s right? I feel a little sad when I hear that sentence. Something I’d like to hear is “You’ve matured and become more manly”. I feel joyful whenever I hear such things.

Q. What was Jinyoung’s conception dream?

A. My mother dreamt of walking along a street with a beautiful scenery of ume flowers in full bloom. Next to it was a stream with clear water, and in front was a large boulder with a huge tree growing up front within. I remember when I first heard it, it was such a beautiful conception dream that even I was surprised.

Q. The most memorable birthday?

A: Last year’s birthday was the most memorable. Even though the birthdays before were nice too, I spent last year’s with the fans. I was touched by the thought of ‘There are so many people who love me and are congratulating me on my birthday’, and that ‘This is definitely what I live for’. I was really happy.

Q. Are there any special birthday presents?

A: Rather than a present, it was the birthday party last year. It was a new experience to have all the fans sing me a birthday song, I nearly cried back then.

Q. Your birthday falls on comeback week. Is there a birthday present you’ll like to receive?

A: We’d like to show off a different side to B1A4 through this round of promotions, and we’ll work hard to achieve 1st place on music programs. It’ll be nice to do well enough to receive a Bonsang at end of year music award shows.

Q: If you were given a birthday holiday, what do you want to do?

A: Rather than celebrating it grandly, I want to treat the family that I’ve been apart from to a delicious meal. It may be something minor, but I want to spend time talking to my family.

Q: When you were young, what were your birthday wishes? Have they come true?

A: In the past, my wish was to become an entertainer. It was a wish I really hoped for to come true so I wished for it very earnestly. Luckily I became a singer, and my wish has come true. Now I wish for the people around me to be healthy, and to be together. And of course, amidst all that it’ll be nice for B1A4 to do well. Haha.

Q: In 10 years’ time, how will your birthday be like?

A: I want to spend my birthday with all the members while having wine at a luxurious restaurant. I think that even at that time, we will be promoting as B1A4 still.

Q: Is there someone you’d like to thank on your birthday?

A: Firstly, I want to say thank you to the parents who worked hard to give birth to me. As I grow older, there are more people who I am thankful for. As I receive love from the people around me, I feel that I should do well to the people around me too. I will live being thankful to everyone.
