130100 INKIGAYO MAGAZINE JANUARY 2013 PART 2

MAGAZINE/KOREAN 2013. 1. 12. 06:11

Q: How have you been? We know that you've been travelling back and forth Korea and overseas for promotions, please tell us more.

Jinyoung: We've been really busy preparing for the new album as well as the concert. It is true that our shoulders were really heavy with both the album and the solo concert, both of which could not be neglected. The members worked and prepared very hard in order to give the fans who've waited and cheered us with one heart two presents - good music, and a handsome performance. The fact that everything we dreamed of so much is coming true one by one, we spent each day happy and thankful - I think there was no way we could have felt that it was difficult.

Baro: While we were on break from Korean promotion, the sale of our album started in Japan and we did showcase lives, events and took part in music programs. We were really surprised to have so many people love our music even overseas. They sang B1A4's Korean songs from beginning to the end and sent us letters and placards despite their lacking Korean - it was really cute and there were many times we were touched by the sincerity. We'll work even harder in future to gain ma~ny more BANAs not only in Korea but in other countries too!

Q: B1A4 will finally be having your solo concert in December. It will be a very commemorative day, to be having a solo concert within 1.5 years of debut. How are the preparations for the concert going?

CNU: Just as you've said, I think it will be a very commemorative day. A solo concert is a dream that we've wanted to fulfil since before our debut. Thanks to the many people who work hard around us and the fans who give us so much love, we're really happy to be able to realize the dream of a 'solo concert' - we will spill all of B1A4 on the concert stage. It'll be nice if everyone enjoyed the show, and that it becomes one performance that stays for long in the memories of the audience.

Sandeul: There aren't many days left till the concert. *shakes* I am a little nervous, but it is a stage that I've dreamt of for so long so in order not to regret anything I'm going to set myself on fire! Honestly... I did not expect us to be able to do a concert so quickly, so I ever made an official promise in an old interview that "if we ever got to have a solo concert, I will wear a white shirt and get sprayed with water!" In the end, will there be water or will there not be water? You're curious? Ever since news of our concert spread, the fans have been screencapping that interview and sending it to me, asking me to hold true to my promise. Will that promise be fulfillied? You'll know after the concert ends. Hahah!

Q: You've been receiving love for your cute and fresh image so far. This time we see that you've focused on exuding the maturity and chicness of a winter man. Please tell us about this maturity that B1A4 speaks of, and how has it changed from before.

Jinyoung: B1A4's image so far has been fresh and cute. The timing for this comeback was done in late autumn, so we tried to transform into lonely, chic men to fit the change of the seasons. The members all turned 20 after our debut so instead of boys, we now exude the feeling of being men. Rather than forcefully transforming ourselves to show a matured side, we want to naturally become adults as time goes by.

Baro: Firstly, I'd like to think that the most eye-catching thing would be the outfits. In particular, I came out in the music video and on stage wearing a trenchcoat. Aren't autumn men all about trenchcoats? The most fragmented example of how we've matured is the change from our casual clothes into matured clothes like trenchcoats.

CNU: The mood of the songs is also very different from previous albums. The songs we used to sing were mostly bright and upbeat, and this time 'Tried to Walk' is a song with strong beats made by the combination of acoustic and electronic sounds. Our cheoreography and stage performances are also very different now. We want everyone to remember B1A4's maturity as one covered with the bright and outstanding color we have.

Q: It's your second year of debut. This is about the time that you start having your own music identity. Will each of you please talk about B1A4's definition of music?

Jinyoung: B1A4's music is a toy box. There are many interesting things inside, and from them you can choose the ones you like and enjoy them in a variety of ways.

CNU: B1A4's music is a universe. There is no end, and you have to continue learning about it.

Sandeul: B1A4's music is a rollercoaster! Listen to it once, and you can't get ahold of yourself.

Baro: B1A4's music is a light bulb. It's always by us quietly lighting up the surrounding.

Gongchan: B1A4's music is a rainbow. There are many colors to it.

Q: 'Tried To Walk' is composed by Jinyoung. What were you thinking of that caused you to create a song with a slightly different direction from the catchy dance songs in the past?

Jinyoung: I don't think that it is a different direction from the other songs I've made so far. Rather than having a change in directions, I think it's filled with more sensitivity since it's the autumn season after all. Actually, the theme of this song was a scene from a CF shot by movie actor Jung Woosung. (Interviewer: Ah, that "Go! Please go!" advertisement? It should be that drink advertisement.) Yes you're right. I got inspiration from the scene of him throwing fallen leaves at the girl, and I wanted to express the story behind it through music.

[T/N: The CF he refers to is Jung Woosung's 2% Lotte Chilsung Water advertisement with Jeon Jihyun. http://pann.nate.com/video/201125786 The dialogue goes.. JWS: Nothing has gone well ever since I met you! Go! Go! Please go! JJH: Please fill me up.]

Q: Are there any habits you have when you compose?

Jinyoung: When I focus on composing, I will not get out of my seat for several hours if there's a good melody that comes to mind. There has been once that I composed for several hours straight without eating anything, and the members were worried sick about me losing weight, haha.

Q: When are the times you want to walk alone?

Jinyoung: I don't like being alone. I want to walk with someone next to me.

CNU: When I have many things to ponder about alone.

Sandeul: When I hear that I'm gaining weight from people around me.

Baro: When we're waiting in the car on days that the weather is good

Gongchan: When I need to change my mood, I want to walk while listening to music.

Q: What are the 3 things in your life you need most?

Jinyoung: Fans - please always be on my side. Love - people need to live while loving. Music - my lifelong assignment.

CNU: Things that I've collected so far (letters, movie ticket stubs, receipts etc) - the record and memories of my life. Acquaintances - my people who believe in me and cheer for me. BANA - people whom I treasure and want to shower them with love.

Sandeul: Food - my energizer. Glasses - my eyes!! Clothes - ah, embarrassing...

Baro: People - because all the people whom I have fate with are precious. Laughter - the driving force for me to always live brightly. Stage - the reason I exist.

Gongchan: Cheek fats - many people around me are upset because I've lost my cheek fats. Family - the existance that brings me strength. Music - the friend that will walk with me forever.

Q: Please talk about your feelings about Suzy, the nation's first love who has risen to be the trend, personally recording for your song.

Baro: I was really happy when I heard that senior Suzy was going to be participating in our song, but it was a pity she did the recording so quickly and disappeared like the wind right after.

Q: What is the worst thing you've done so far in your life?

Jinyoung: When I was in high school, I had a girlfriend for a while. I lied to my mother that I didn't have one.

Baro: During middle school, my friend was raising a puppy and it was so much fun to play with it that I did not attend supplementary classes for a month without letting my parents know. I remember being hit by my dad really badly when they found out later on. We cannot lie to our parents.

Gongchan: I liked that I had to purchase a reference book, and used that money to go to the arcade.

Q: Like in the lyrics of 'What Shall We Do', you have a chance to go on a worry-free date alone with your girlfriend. Shall we plan out a one-day date course for each of your girlfriends?

CNU: I'm not too fond of wandering around outside, so I will invite my girlfriend to my house and cook delicious foods for her, then watch an interesting movie together.

Baro: The front of my girlfriend's house > Myungdong > Han River > Namsan > Dongdaemun > Hongdae > the front of my girlfriend's house.

Gongchan: After picking her up from the front of her house, we will take a bus from the high speed bus terminal to the amusement park in Yongin. [T/N: Everland.] After having an enjoyable date with my girlfriend all day, I will safely bring her back to the front of her house, and then I would go home.

Q: Escaping from the limitations of an idol, your solo song 'Be My Girl' definitely has a mature vibe to it. In what way did you work hard to digest this song?

Jinyoung: Be it the feel of the song or its lyrics, it is quite different from B1A4's songs so far. In order to nurture the slightly sexy vibe, I started putting myself under a spell that 'I am sexy'. In the period that we were recording, I sang while thinking that I am the sexiest on Earth. Hahaha.

Q: It feels like I'm listening to club music that's trendy all over the world when I listen to 'In The Air'. This is a strong song that presents B1A4's individuality well with its electronic sounds. By any chance are there any DJs you'd like to collaborate with on your song?

Baro, Gongchan: David Guetta. As much as he is a DJ who starts the trends nowadays, we'd like to create a combination of his music with our style. Even though he works mainly with club music, we'd like to work together to make a new style of music by creating something that even the general public can listen to without being sick of it.

Q: I think it has helped you guys a lot to have competed on equal levels with many galaxy-like senior singers on Immortal Song. Please tell us what you feel about Immortal Song, something difficult about it, and maybe share some interesting stories.

CNU: Afterall these are songs who have received much love, and people who are very famous... The biggest worry was whether we should sing the song while retaining and bringing out the style of the original song, or editing the song and singing it in a fresh new way. We could have ruined the original song for many people with just a small mistake, so we were even more careful. Whenever this happened, the members will put their heads together and solve the problem by finetuning each other's opinions. More than anything, I think we managed to solve the problem easily without much difficulty because of the mutual trust between the members.

Sandeul: The most memorable time throughout Immortal Song was when I sang senior Lee Yong's 'Forgotten Season'. I went for the filming after staying up 2 days to shoot for our music video, and my voice did not come out as I expected it to. Despite the panic, I have no regrets because I did my best on stage and many people cheered me on. If I was given another chance to go on the show, I want to prepare better and show everyone a good stage.

Baro: I have to say that I felt both the honour and the burden of having to sing the songs of outstanding seniors and to stand on the same stage with amazing seniors. However, it felt fruitful to be able to show new performances and complete songs week after week, and it's an experience that cannot be gained elsewhere.

Q: B1A4 became the experts of childhood education on the program Hello Baby! You probably have imagined a lot about marriage and your future family. Please tell us at what age you'd like to get married and have children, and how you'd like to bring up your children.

Jinyoung: I have never thought about marriage in detail, but if I ever get married I want to become a careful husband and a friend-like father. And we will definitely not stay home on the weekends. I'd bring my family out somewhere to travel and make many good memories.

CNU: Ever since I was young, I've wanted to get married early. I will believe in what my child chooses to do, and push him or her until their full potential.

Sandeul: When I was thought, I thought I had to get married at 20 years old. But now that I'm past the age of 20, I'll have to slowly and seriously think about it again.

Gongchan: I will get married when I have the ability to be responsible for a family. I want to be a father who will listen to his children's troubles and always play with them.

Baro: I want one daughter and two sons. I want to raise them individually after understanding what they do best at.

Q: This is something that came to mind after looking at a section on a news site called 'Star Column'. B1A4 is well-praised by staffs at the broadcast stations for your unchanging sincere greetings and courteous ways ever since your debut days. But every now and then, there are times where these basic virtues are really hardpressing. Are there times in the middle that your heart is wavered? We're curious about how do you overcome these difficult times.

Sandeul: If anyone shows the slightest sign of wanting to go another way, no matter who is it we pull them back into place. To be able to do them, I think it's the concern and affection we have for each other.

Baro: What I've been feeling recently is that people do things according to their thoughts. Maybe it's because of the impact of Jinyoung hyung's positive thinking, but I think my actions depend on my mental attitude. In the past during my trainee days, I ever got scolded by the company staff - it wasn't my intention, but that was how I appeared to be in the eyes of others. The staff said, "Even if that wasn't your intention, you will look like that sort of person in the eyes of others when you perform such an action. If that is not your intention, carry it out accordingly in your actions." Everything is hard work, I believe. And also the constant promise of not losing the mindset of a beginner.

Jinyoung: I do think that no matter who you are, you may waver, and you may change slightly. More than that, the problem is when you don't know that you've changed and you just walk away from it. At those times, people around need to offer help... That is why we often consult the company staff, and observe each other amongst ourselves. If we think that today this member is a little weird, we observe for several days and then talk about it. When we talk about it, we find out the reason and naturally it becomes solved.

Q: You said that the secret to unwavering teamwork are special events. What is the most recent special event?

Jinyoung: Rather than a special event, we feel that everyday is an event. We decide on order and seating arrangements everyday with rock-paper-scissors, so much that the company staffs ask if we're not sick of it. But we're not. (Interviewer: You decided upon the order of the photoshoot through rock-paper-scissors too right?) Yes, we decide everything with rock-paper-scissors, haha. Also, if a member says that "today, I'll buy food", we will order a variety of foods to eat whenever it comes to mind during practicel. We also make up impromptu fairytales and stuff. Everyday is interesting.
